The Brackenlowe
Halt Project

From a storyworld into the community.

The community arts and local outreach offshoot of Brackenlowe Halt, created to share a Hull-born storyworld with the city’s people and places.

An invitation to people working across Hull’s culture, business, heritage and education. We would value your perspective on what this world could make possible locally.

ONE CREATIVE WORLD. A COMMUNITY OFFSHOOT.

How the two connect.

THE ORIGINAL STORYWORLD

Brackenlowe Halt

A fictional world set in and around Hull: its railway halt, woodland friends, characters and interconnected stories. Mindspring Studios Ltd develops and owns the original world and its commercial work, with the ambition to build a lasting creative business in Hull.

ITS COMMUNITY ARTS & OUTREACH OFFSHOOT

The Brackenlowe Halt Project

The Project grows from that creative foundation. Its focus is on sharing Brackenlowe’s cultural, heritage and educational possibilities with Hull’s communities, through activities and experiences developed with local people and organisations.

POSSIBILITIES TO SHAPE TOGETHER

What could grow
from here.

Our first step is a conversation with local partners. We want to understand what would be useful, who it could reach and what support it would need before choosing a pilot. These are possibilities to discuss together.

Stories within reach

Stories, audio and accessible resources shared through libraries, schools and community settings, with free or accessible experiences at the heart of the work.

Shared creative experiences

Readings, illustration and creative activities that bring families and local creatives together, with something of Brackenlowe to take away.

Hull, seen through story

Creative encounters with the city’s railways, docks and everyday lives, using fiction to spark curiosity about the real place.

The illustrated Hull Heritage Room, with a ship, locomotive, maps and journals overlooking the city.
Hull’s heritage, wrapped in fiction.

Our ambition is to create something in Hull that can travel beyond it, bringing curiosity, attention and affection back to the city.

BUSINESS · CULTURE · COMMUNITY

A useful place
to become involved.

A connection can begin in several ways. We would like to understand where Brackenlowe meets your work, and what a useful first step could look like.

Make an introduction

Help the Project meet people, organisations and communities whose experience could guide the work.

Shape a local pilot

Explore a reading, creative session or small cultural activity together, with a clear audience and purpose.

Support something specific

Funding, sponsorship, materials, printing, a venue or professional expertise could help an agreed community activity take shape.

Clear purpose. Thoughtful support.

Any funded or sponsored activity would have an agreed scope, budget and account of what the support made possible. Recognition would be appropriate to the project and consistent with Brackenlowe’s character.

Mindspring Studios retains the storyworld’s intellectual property and editorial responsibility. Partnership support is agreed around specific community-facing work.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

Where we are now.

Coming soon: Brackenlowe Storyworld. A time forgotten, remembered. An immersive world of stories, places and discoveries. A lamplit railway platform at sunset.

Brackenlowe Storyworld — coming soon. An immersive world of stories, places and discoveries, bringing together the woodland tales and the Signalman’s journals inspired by Hull and East Yorkshire.

There is already something to enjoy. Watch and listen to Pip’s complete narrated story, explore the illustrated locations and discover the Signalman’s introduction. The connected rooms, paths and interactive experience remain in development; a finished collection is not yet available.

AN INVITATION FROM HULL

We really ought
to meet.

We would value the chance to show you what we are building, hear your perspective, and explore where Brackenlowe might connect with your work and Hull’s wider cultural ambitions.
